MAN TRAINING
INSTRUCTIONAL SAFETY AND APPROACH
Hand to Hand combat is a dirty business. We don’t want anyone getting hurt. Safety is a prime consideration to me in teaching all my courses.
It is useless to teach Hand-to-Hand Combat if you injure the people you’re supposed to be teaching. These concerns are addressed in this course with safety goggles, rubber knives, striking pads, and neck protectors during the garrote portion.
The students are encouraged to perform at their best. The students work as partners. This is a key concept in their training vice just moving through the air. This tells the Marines whether their techniques are working or not. If not, the instructor will correct them until they “get it right”. The students are motivated because the student sees an immediate result of their efforts. This training is broken down, so it can be easily scheduled into the unit’s PT (Physical Training) program. Such training is accomplished as a unit, so it encourages unit integrity.
WOMEN TRAINING
I believe that women can learn this material just as well as men can. Since it is not strength based, women can also master this material. I have instructed many women students in Wu-Chi classes with no problem. I had many tell me that male coworkers did not bother them anymore because they now projected an energy of strength and confidence.
Although I never had the chance to teach a woman marine out of my 97 male students, I did address the subject of women’s training in an actual USMC presentation of my art Counter-Sambo, AS FOLLOWS:
“I also have on the drawing boards, if looked at, a course for WM’s. Which address the actual concerns, of how to best capitalize on the physical capabilities they have. Because push comes to shove with the bad guys, you got a front line. But then you ask, “Do you have a front line anymore?” They like to drop “behind the lines.”
Who are going to be there? Support personnel. People who may not have the best weapons. People who might be unarmed. People who are stacking boxes. And of course, what happened in Desert Storm, there were WM’s involved. So, we can address that too.”
